Zest Event Proves a Highlight of 2019
Hundreds of people gathered at an arts event with a difference at Westgate Hall in Canterbury in mid November. Organised as part of Bright Shadow’s “Zest” programme, Zest Together celebrated the coming together of groups from across east Kent whose members combine creativity and companionship. The event was the first of its kind and was hailed by those who attended as a great success.
Arts charity Bright Shadow arranges weekly creative sessions designed to help people with memory problems and people living with dementia, together with their families and friends. Sessions are held in Hythe, Dover, Canterbury & Whitstable, providing an opportunity to sing, move and share stories and laughter.
Bright Shadow’s mission is to enable people living with dementia, and those affected by it, to live well and to thrive. Established in 2009, the charity promotes and organises creative activities that are fun, meaningful, accessible and challenging. It advocates providing better quality care by invigorating people’s mood and enhancing their relationships with others. The organisation believes that life and fun shouldn’t stop once people reach a certain age or receive a diagnosis of dementia. Bright Shadow helps people to celebrate the here and now, ensuring that people with dementia enjoy a bright today and a bright tomorrow.
The Roger De Haan Charitable Trust provided grant support in 2019 to help sustain the Hythe group.
