Community radio stations are awarded five year licences by OFCOM to operate on FM frequencies across the country. The Roger De Haan Charitable Trust helped to set up two stations, in Thanet and in Folkestone, with the latter coming on air in 2011. Originally conceived as educational resources to complement the mainstream curriculum in schools, the radio stations were also to provide a valuable service of news and features, as well as a broadcasting a wide range of music and specialist programmes, some presented by students and others by volunteers, designed to appeal to a wide range of age groups. They would also support local events and stage outside broadcasts.

The Folkestone station continues to be supported by The RDHCT, and funding also comes from limited on air commercials and other valuable sources of sponsorship and charitable support.
