Canterbury Road Recreation Ground

RDHCT has awarded a number of grants to support the installation of high quality play equipment in recreation grounds across Folkestone and in other parts of the Shepway district. One such initiative was led by Our Place, Our Time (OPOT), a local community group in east Folkestone, who made plans to improve facilities at Canterbury Road recreation ground. OPOT, the Canterbury Road Residents’ Group, was formed in 2007 to improve amenities in the area for the benefit of local families. The recreation area cost in the region of £165,000, of which £144,000 came from the RDHCT. The balance was raised from East Folkestone Together, the Shepway Community Safety Unit and Folkestone Town Council.

The facilities at the recreation area now include a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) and an additional practice area, a teen shelter, a practice running track, new play equipment and improvements to the toddlers’ play area, including a sand pit and new play equipment. Footpath lighting has been  improved and new litter bins, a dog mess bag dispenser, benches, signs and seating have been installed.
