The Channel Triathlon was established in 2018 by the Channel Rotary Club and attracts sports people and spectators from across the south east. The event is suitable for all levels of experience and the routes are carefully designed to make it a spectacle for the town. It is one of the few triathlons that includes a sea swim which makes it more interesting and challenging for participants
The Channel Tri raises around £20,000 annually and supports 40 local charities and beneficiaries, including South Kent Mind, Shepway Sports Trust, Channel Rotary’s local fund, Folkestone Rescue, Folkestone Sea Rowing Club, and Kent Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre.
The Roger De Haan Charitable Trust has provided seed money for the event which is then added to by other generous sponsors and supporters. People participating also pay an entrance fee that goes towards the local charities.
The event is hosted and managed by the Folkestone Channel Rotary, a group of approximately 40 local people who provide charitable support and expertise.
