Our Place Our Time (Canterbury Road, Folkestone)


This  initiative was led by Our Place, Our Time (OPOT) to improve facilities at Canterbury Road recreation ground in east Folkestone. OPOT, the Canterbury Road Residents’ Group, was formed in 2007 with the aim of improving the area and the lives of local families. They raised nearly £165,000 to revamp the recreation ground, with contribiutions from: Roger De Haan Charitable Trust (£144,000);East Folkestone Together (£14,000); Shepway Community Safety Unit (£5,000) and Folkestone Town Council (£1,500).

The facilities include a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), practice area, a teen shelter, a practice running track, play equipment for older young people and improvements to the toddler area, including sand pit and play equipment. Footpath lighting was improved and litter bins, a dog mess bag dispenser, benches, signs and seating were installed.
