Varne Watersports and Sailing Club
The Varne Watersports and Sailing Club at New Romney offers a range of activities for members and the wider community, including fishing, personal watercraft, powerboat and water-skiing, sailing, windsurfing, SUP and land yachting. It has been established since 1966 and provides up to three free sessions for watersports activities and land yachting to the local community.
Since 2013, the club has delivered more and more free activities, rising from just 375 in 2013, to 1103 in 2018 – the club stopped counting in 2019! The club supports the local RNLI at Dungeness and Littlestone on Sea with free membership. It also actively fundraises for other charities too, such as Paula Carr Diabetes Trust, Kent Blind Association and the Air Ambulance.
RDHCT has provided grants which have supported the purchase of a container, rescue boat and engine, windsurfers, SUPs, kayaks, wetsuits and blowkarts, as well as funding courses for the volunteers who help run the club and deliver training sessions for the local community. RDHCT funding has also contributed to the costs of building a much needed new ramp/slipway for the club. The club has also received funding from Magnox and Sports England.
