The Trust has made a number of donations to the hospices that serve people in east Kent. Pilgrims Hospices have three sites, so that people can cope with life-limiting illness with dignity and free from pain.
As an example, in 2012 a donation was made to the Pilgrims Hospices Rapid Response Hospice at Home Service, set up for those who preferred to receive hospice care in their own homes.
Rapid Response Hospice at Home was developed in response to requests from patients and carers. The Hospice at Home responds to a referral within four hours, and provides hands-on nursing care for patients. The service works alongside existing community services as well as providing practical and emotional support for carers. This allows family and friends to spend precious time with loved ones.
Care and support is provided in the place of patients’ choice. The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is completely free of charge.
One family member who benefited from the support of the team said: “Thank you very much to all the Hospice at Home staff for the kindness and compassion you showed to my husband and myself when caring for both of us in his final days at home. I will always be grateful to you all.”
