Folkestone Coastwatch

2005, 2015 and 2019
£5,950 total

Folkestone Coastwatch is part of the National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) which assists in the protection and preservation of life at sea and along the United Kingdom coastline. It provides valuable eyes and ears along the coastline, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. When people get into trouble, the team alerts HM Coastguard and directs the appropriate rescue services to the incident.

The Folkestone station was the first in Kent and opened in 1998. It originally operated from an ex-Coastguard Station in east Folkestone near Martello Tower Number 3 and in 2007 moved to its current position at Copt Point Battery Observation Post.

Folkestone Coastwatch is registered as a charity and relies on donations to fund its activities. More information is at https://www.nci-folkestone.org/
