The 127-year-old church pipe organ at a 12^th century church is being restored to its former glory.

The Victorian organ was purpose built for the space within St Mary’s Church, Brabourne, by FH Browne Ltd in 1896. Oak framed and clad, with spotted metal pipework, it has not been modified or altered since then and is a valuable original antique instrument. It has a rich and vibrant sound when fully fit and visiting organists have commented on the quality of music it produces.

Despite being well looked after, the organ has deteriorated since 2018 and is unplayable. The original leather valve flaps have been affected by mouse damage and damp; many wooden parts are worn from over 127 years of use during church services.

The church committee and its supporters have worked together since 2021 to raise the £35,000 required to restore the organ so it may be enjoyed at services, weddings, and festivals for many more years to come. Work has started and is expected to be completed by late 2023/early 2024.
