Sci Fi Fest Comes to Folkestone, Helping Raise Money for Charity
Categories:Community | Events
Former Doctor Who Tom Baker will make a guest appearance at the Folkestone Film, TV and Comic Con (formerly Geek Fest), to be held at Folkestone Academy on Saturday 9 May from 10am to 5pm.
The event, now in its third year, is organised by Planet Folkestone, who hope that it will be the biggest and best yet. In previous year thousands of sci fi fans have attended, hoping to catch glimpses of favourite actors and characters from shows and films such as Red Dwarf, Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy. There will be a question and answer session with Tom Baker, although tickets for that part of the event have long since completely sold out. For sci-fi fans however there is still a great deal to see and enjoy, with more than 40 sci-fi stalls, costumiers and body-painting, and classic photos and exhibits including the “KITT” car from Knight Rider, Herbie (the intelligent VW), USS Bridge, a life-size sofa from The Simpsons, a Tardis and the ubiquitous Daleks!
Entry costs £7 for adults and £4 for children under 15, or £20 for a family ticket. See www.planetfolkestone.co.uk for details. As well as helping to put Folkestone on the map, the event raises funds for charity, with any surpluses raised being split this year between Folkestone Rainbow Centre and Alzheimer’s Society. RDHCT helped by making a donation towards the costs of staging the event.
