Annual sandcastle competition organised by local charity

Did you know that Folkestone’s Sunny Sands Sandcastle Competition that has run almost annually since 2010 is actually organised by a local charity?

The Church Street Project, which uses sand tray play as part of its creative therapies for children, decided to run this event in order to raise much needed funds for their work.

Each year, as well as an opportunity to raise awareness of the charity’s services service and for the public to meet and talk to the team, it raises on average between £300 and £400. This helps towards materials, such as paper and paints. 

Charity Secretary, Mary Paterson, said: “Our initial competition was run in conjunction with the Lions who offered their support and expertise, back in 2010. Now, the sandcastle competition has become a huge attraction to Folkestone with people coming far and wide to take part. It is a wonderful day with some spectacular creations.”

The event is set to take place again on 20th July 2025.
