Sport England Success for Varne Boat and Social Club
Local sports club The Varne Boat and Social Club is among 149 projects to secure a share of £16.5 million of National Lottery funding from Sport England that will help
improve facilities and playing fields across the country.
The club has been awarded £75,000 to renew its ageing ramp, in order to help make launching safer and quicker for water sports users. The new ramp will be in constant use by the club’s fishing boats, jet skis, sailing dinghies, land yachts and rescue boat.
Club Commodore Zalan Paksy said, “We are delighted to have secured this investment for our community club. A great deal of hard work was put into the bid process from club members to achieve this great outcome. Thanks must also go to the RYA who have helped the club in its bid for the new ramp and to our sponsors who have helped the club reach this wonderful milestone: Magnox, EDF, The Roger De Haan Charitable Trust, Waitrose, a Kent County Council Member’s grant, ACTIV at Folkestone and Musto at Ashford.
The announcement came as Sport England revealed that it has reached a major funding milestone – having invested £5 billion in grassroots sport in the last 20 years. Sport England’s Property Director, Charles Johnston, said: “We’re delighted to have invested so much into community sport, and to see on a daily basis the impact that it makes for local people.”
