Andy McConnell, BBC Antiques Roadshow’s glass expert since 2005, is taking part in Christmas Celebrity Mastermind, with the life and work of Joe Cocker as his chosen subject.

Christmas Celebrity Mastermind is a ten programme mini series that will air over Christmas, starting on Monday 22 December. Well known personalities will take turns in the famous chair in a version of the long-running show, often described as “Britain’s toughest quiz”, with the added incentive of hoping to raise funds for a charity of their choice. Andy has nominated ARRCC, based in Rye and Folkestone, as his chosen charity should he win.

ARRCC (Activities, Respite Rehabilitation Care Centres) offers workshops, sports and activities to adults who live in the local area who are physically and sensory impaired. Andy McConnell lives in Rye, where his shop “Glass Etc” is run by wife Helen. He has supported ARRCC for many years, and has agreed to become the charity’s Patron.

Other contestants taking part in Andy’s Mastermind round are poet and comedian Tim Key, whose specialist subject is former Wimbledon champion Andy Murray, musician and lyricist Sir Richard Stilgoe (“British Musicals to 1980”), and singer-songwriter Amy Macdonald on the television series “Still Game”. Watch at 7pm on Tuesday 23 December to find out how Andy (and ARRCC) fares!
