Folkestone 10k winners smash records

The Folkestone Coastal 10k race finally went ahead on Sunday 6 September 2020 with the winners seeing in new records.

Men’s winner, Charlie Brisley of Invicta East Kent, completed the race in 31:02, whilst Ladies’ champion Holly Dixon of Cambridge Harriers achieved 34:45.The male team prizes went to Medway & Maidstone AC and female team prizes were awarded to Cambridge Harriers.

The race saw competitors from many Kent clubs as well as from further afield, from London and as far as Cambridge. In order to meet social distancing guidelines, over 300 runners (all temperature checked to comply with the new Covid-19 rules set by UK Athletics) left Folkestone promenade in waves of 12 for distancing requirements.

Race Director Ray Johnson, commented: “Congratulations and well done to all those who participated. The objectives of the race are to encourage participation, assist charities, visit our district and promote good health, as well as increase the profile of sport and I am particularly delighted that there was such a good turnout during these challenging times. This Sunday’s event was a massive success and was one of very few in the country, so all eyes were on us as running try’s to return to normal!”

Charities and organisations benefitting from the race which is supported by RDHCT, include The Rainbow Centre, Gurkha Memorial Fund, Folkestone Youth Project, Green Kordofan, Touchbase and local Rotary Clubs for distribution to local causes.
